Obtainium Setup Guide

Keep your dual-screen emulators automatically updated with Obtainium

Obtainium Setup Guide

This guide is currently setup only for dual screen handhelds like the AYN Thor and Pocket DS

πŸ”§ What Is Obtainium?

Obtainium is a lightweight Android app that automatically tracks and updates GitHub-hosted emulators and tools β€” no Play Store or manual checks required.

It acts like your own β€œopen-source app store,” monitoring new releases, sending notifications, and installing updates directly within the app.

For dual-screen handhelds, this makes keeping specialized emulator builds up to date effortless.

βš™οΈ Installing Obtainium

  1. Download the App
Go to the Obtainium GitHub releases page.
  2. Grab the APK
Under the newest release, click β€œShow all assets” and download app-release.apk.
  3. Install
Open the file on your device and install it. You may need to enable β€œInstall from unknown sources.”
  4. Allow Notifications
Start Obtainium and approve notification access to receive update alerts.

🧩 How It Works

Add emulators manually using their GitHub link, or save time by importing a pre-built JSON file that contains all major dual-screen-compatible apps.
Once imported, Obtainium will automatically monitor and update them as new versions become available.
